A few insides about our recent Free Walking Tour
On the picture is our guide Markos describing local candies. Arriba, abajo, al centro y pa dentro! That’s what we did with surprise candies. Markos said we should put the candy on the hand and don’t touch it. Then the magic words Arriba, abajo, al centro y pa dentro – to the top, to the bottom, to the center and inside. That’s way more interesting than “cheers”. Candies have different kinds of liquor inside. As one of the legends says, only men were allowed to drink, so women have to find a more delicate solution. This is one of the interesting things we learned.
Another interesting lesson was about one of the squires – Plaza Chica. Why the squire called “Girl Squire”? The answer is not. The word “chica” has a lot of meanings and one of them is “small or cute”. The central squire of Quito is called Plaza Grande and the squire nearby, which is Plaza Chica, simply called a small squire.
